USA Tour year 2000
TELEPHONE 44 (0)1253 778764 E MAIL accordions@btconnect.com We left Manchester and arrived in New York 7 hours later, it was well below zero and snow covered 3 states. After a a few hours, we left to go to San Francisco where we were greeted by Paul Pasquali and Steve Albini. Our first concert was in store where Steve Albini manages the business for Stan and Jan Halverston, proprietors of Marin Music Centre in Novato, north of San Francisco. The stage was set up in store, where Louise and Jon, gave Steve a hand to get the store ready for the concert, this was a great success with lots of interest in the Concerto. In the audience was Steve Balich, President of the Accordion Club of the Redwoods, who we originally met at Volpis in Petaluma, on a previous visit. Frank Panacci, a well known accordionist, and also Don Nurisso president and founder of the Bay Area accordion club of San Francisco, professional accordionist. John Domitrowich and wife attended the open day at Marin Music and also Marian Kelly, Past President of the Bay Area Accordion Club, Kris Nelson was the P.R. Man for the Redwoods Our next concert was at the Verdi Club, to a full crowd. Lou Soper President of the Club welcomed us, and the Manager of the Verdi Cllub. Accordionist Mr Hillman, recorded with Shania Twain, Ron Borelli was present he recently toured and recorded with the Three Tenors with a Symphony Orchestra. Jim Holliday and his friend, were also present, they were the first peopl to book for the Las Vegas Convention Los Angeles was next with a 4 day stay, it was the NAM music fair, one of the largest in the world here we played daily on the Italian Industry stands, which had showing, Victoria Accordions, Excelsior Accordions, Stagi Manufacturing, Alessandrini Accordions, Musitech, Orla, and Piermaria. Whilst playing on the stand I had the pleasure of meeting some very special people, one of these was Max, and Mac was the demonstrator for Peavey, and his show was very special. He had been interested in the Concerto for over a year, and being a multi instrumentalist, felt that the accordion, and imparticularly the Concerto was his choice. He had played keyboards for The Eagles during his star studded past, He certainly was a great personality, and it was a great pleasure to meet him. Whist in Hollywood, Paul showed to us the best places, we dined in the best restaurants, alongside the local stars. We had a great time, and are due back next year to Anneheim for the NAM fair. The next concert was in San Diego, on the Mexican Border, the weather, by now had left the snow of New York well behind. Gordon Kohl welcomed us to the Sandiego Accordion Club, once again it was such a pleasure to meet friends made on a previous tour. We were made so very welcome, and food was the first of the evenings procedures, the second was to play. Richard, a fellow concerto owner, President of the Sandiego Club, and also the Accordion Lovers Society international, PresidentSchell Holmes, said he felt as if he was conducting a huge orchestra when we played Star Wars. He thanked us very graciously for our show, Mr and Mrs Gorden Kohl thanked us for our concert, and Mrs Kohl, who was also there, having recently lost her husband. PRESIDENT OF SANDIEGO ALSO ACCORDION LOVERS SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL, PRESIDENT SCHELL HOLMES STAR WARS HE FELT AS IF HE WAS CONDUCTIN A SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, AND THANKED US FOR THE SHOW. Iona was there, a senior member, now over 80 years, and still playing the accordion. A lot of interest was affordedto the Concerto, and on the evening, one Concerto order was confirmed by Joe, a member of the Club, and another to be confirmed within the week, many other members of the audience were amazed at its versatility between conventional with reeds, and electronic Orchestration. Then it was on to LAS VEGAS, here we were in our
element. Having to remember that the reason we were there was to organise
the Las Vegas Convention taking place 6 - 10 August. The hotel with over
1,000 bedrooms was a lovely hotel, with perfect facilities for running this
event. In between the organising, lots of sightseeing, Ceasers Palace,
Treasure Island, Venice, were amongst the hot spots. We did not want to leave
but now it was time to revisit Madera, at the beautiful Golf Club.
There to greet us were the Venturis. a wonderful welcome was afforded us, and a
full house it was. We met lots of lovely people amongst them were the
Sivas Family, Sarah, the daughter was a lovely young lady enjoying her
accordion, after first watching us, she was inspired to do just that, and also
her dad. In my E mail box, on my return was an E mail from Sarah. We
were joined for breakfast by the Venturis. aboveTHE TURBETTIS AT STOCKTON THE VENTURIS
AT MADERA
Onward to Stockton, and a revisit to the Turbettis, once again a wonderful reception by our friends in Stockton, and an invitation to dine after the show at their home. The hall was full, and the concert went really well with ,again, lots of interest in the Concerto, and a pending order. The meal was superb, and the company. Back to San Francisco, and our tickets were extended for a further 4 days to accommodate imparticularly the valentine night, with a buffet, and music to follow, once again we were hosted marvelously by Steve Albini and Steve Balich. In the audience was Clifton, the main man for Cotati, and he said,I believe you are with us again at Cotati. It was a great night, and well worth staying in San Francisco for. However after checking in with Delta Airlines, we were told to pay $1000 for excess baggage, this was the only bad thing that happened, the rest was magic.
